BE P-O-S-I-T-I-V-E
P = PRIORITIZE.
Take the time to list the things you would like to do in 2019, things that are really important to you. Be realistic. Be practical. Then prioritize your list and put the items in the order of importance to you. Work on one or two at a time so you don’t become overwhelmed. It’s gratifying to accomplish things you want to get done.
O = OFFER
Make a consistent effort to offer your help to people or communinity/religious organizations that need your assistance. Enjoy the opportunity to give of your time and talents to others, but be reasonable about your time so that you don’t burn yourself out. There’s something fulfilling about being able to serve others.
S = SIMPLIFY
Make every effort to de-clutter your life. Make simplicity a way of life. Work to simplify each day, one day at a time, realizing that this will be challenging, but also realizing that it’s possible. Keep in mind that simplicity reduces stress and discouragement.
I = IDENTIFY
Know thyself. Work with your medical team and others to know as much about yourself as possible. Identify ways to maintain and improve your mental, physical and spiritual well-being. Be proactive about doing what’s best for you. Be determined to take good care of yourself. You are your own best advocate.
T = THANK
There are many ways, big and small, that people contribute to your life. People often do little things that touch your life. There are also people in your past who have enriched your life. You are not an island unto yourself. Take the time to thank people—-call, text, email, send a note, share personally—-let them know how much you appreciate what they have done for you.
I = INVITE
Invite people into your life who are positive and optimistic, people who encourage you when you are with them, people you enjoy being with. Your life will be happier and healthier if you interact with positive people, people who care about you and your well-being. Take the initiative. Invite. Spend less time with negative, critical, people……they will pull you down.
V = VALUE
There are certain things and certain people that mean a lot to you….value them. Don’t neglect them and don’t take them for granted. Give them attention. Treasure them. Take care of the things you value. Don’t store them away where you can’t enjoy them. It’s the same with people that you value. Give attention to them. Enjoy them. They may not always be with you.
E = EVALUATE
Do something most people fail to do. Stop now and then and evaluate how you’re doing. Don’t get discouraged about your progress. Change is often needed. Make whatever adjustments you have to make to assure yourself that you are doing all you can to experience a happy, healthy life.
