The little boy said to his grandpa, ”Grandpa, what is life?” Grandpa thought for a moment, went to his bedroom, and came back with a small box. He handed the box to his grandson and said, “This is a gift box. I want you to have it.” His grandson took the box and was surprised when he opened it. ”It’s empty,” he said. ”That’s right,” grandpa replied. ”You see, everyone gets one free gift box. But there’s one problem. The box is empty. And when people get their gift box many do what you just did. They’re surprised and disappointed that their gift box is empty. They simply don’t know what to do with an empty box. Sometimes they just let it sit empty. Sometimes they throw it away. You see, my little friend, LIFE IS WHAT YOU PUT IN THE BOX.” The boy looked at his empty box. ”How do you know what to put in it?” ”That’s the joy of life,” grandpa said. ”It’s up to you what you put in it. You see, life is what you put into it. It’s what you give, not what you receive. So go now and fill your box with all the good and wonderful things you possibly can. It’s your life.”
