Being unable to read is a major problem. Over 14% of the population in the United States is illiterate. The U.S. ranks 125th in the world in literacy. With the start of a new school year, teachers have a major challenge in from of them — helping children learn to read. Miss Prim is one of those teachers. She has 26 very unique children. Today, meet one of her students: Humphrey Higgins Hook — he hates to read. See how Miss Prim deals with the problem. Perhaps it will make you smile. (This is part of my children’s book: Miss Prim’s Class of 26 Alphabet Children.)
A boy named Humphrey Higgins Hook
said he would never ever read a book.
Why, he wouldn’t even take a look
at the pictures in a picture book.
But clever was Miss Prim, indeed.
She was determined to help him read.
So she decided to write a book
about a boy named Humphrey Higgins Hook.
Now this made Humphrey curious indeed.
In fact, it made him want to read
about this boy named Humphrey Higgins Hook.
And that is all it really took
to get Humphrey Higgins Hook to read a book.

Brilliant teacher that Miss Prim.
And I cannot imagine the world I live in without being able to read.
