I think it’s good sometimes
to reflect on what it is that INSPIRES us
because it tells us something about ourselves.
It gives us insights into who we are.
Many things inspire me.
One thing I go to when I need
a good does of inspiration is a movie,
”The Unsinkable Molly Brown.”
It’s based on a true story.
Molly Brown was a philanthropist
who survived the Titanic.
She’s remembered for helping people
get safely off the sinking ship.
She’s also remembered for urging
the crew of Lifeboat No 6 to return
to the debris field and look for survivors.
Upon being rescued, she organized a
survivors’ committee to help meet the needs
of second and third class survivors.
Her story is a rags to riches story,
(she was born into a poor Irish immigrant family),
and was fortunate to become quite wealthy.
However, she was never accepted by the “upper” circles of society.
But REJECTION did not deter or discourage her
because she had an ”UNSINKABLE ATTITUDE.”
She was INSPIRED, DRIVEN, DETERMINED.
Instead of giving up, she worked hard to
improve the lives of women, the rights of workers,
and education and literacy for children.
During World War I she went to France
to help rebuild areas behind the front lines
and minister to wounded soldiers.
MOLLY BROWN IS AN INSPIRATION.
Her life exemplifies what can happen
if you focus on a dream and REFUSE TO GIVE UP.
Her message is a profound one:
Whatever course you decide upon in life,
there will always be someone
to tell you that you can’t do it
or you are wrong for trying.
And there will be difficulties and obstacles
that arise and tempt you to believe
that your critics were right.
It takes courage to fight through it all
and stay on course toward your goal.
But with an”UNSINKABLE ATTITUDE”
you CAN do it.
If MOLLY BROWN can do it,
SO CAN YOU.

I feel so lucky to have you as my father and I appreciate every day of life we are granted to share as family. From childhood to adulthood you have supported me, encouraging me to build that Unsinkable Molly Brown attitude, even when my ‘unsinkable’ may have presented as outright ‘stubborn’. Watching you live your life has inspired me to be the best person I can be in my own way. Thank you with all my heart and soul Dad. Your belief in who I am and who I can become has been ‘unsinkable.’
