Perhaps more than anything else,
Fairy Tales and Nursery Rhymes
are symbols of our childhood.
Isn’t it amazing how they stay with us.
We never forget the rhythms, the rhymes,
the vivid images of the poems and stories.
Researchers tell us that they instill a love of
reading, improve vocabulary, develop the
imagination, increase intelligence,
and strengthen moral teachings.
They portray exaggerated versions of
the struggle between right and wrong.
They teach critical thinking skills
and the power of consequence.
Oh, the beautiful sleepy-time
lullaby of rock-a-bye baby,
the fun of hey diddle, diddle,
the mystery of little Jack Horner,
the adventures of Aladdin and his lamp,
the hilarity of the emperor’s new clothes,
the lessons of the three little pigs,
the triumph of Cinderella,
the guessing game of Rumpelstiltskin,
and hundreds more.
They have entertained us,
They have benefitted us.
They are forever a part of our lives.

Just twenty minutes before I read this I was talking to my youngest daughter about the books I used to read to her and her sister. The rhymes. I had to ask….did she actually she remember and she said yes. Made my day. 🙂
