I’m having one of those days
whereby my mind is rambling,
connecting unconnected synapses in my mind.
And the one thought that keeps coming to the fore is
WHAT WOULD I DO IF I HAD THE CHANCE
TO GO BACK IN MY LIFE
AND CHANGE ONE THING.
JUST ONE THING.
WHAT WOULD IT BE?
There are a lot of things I would want to change
but if I could change only ONE thing
what would I choose?
That’s such a tough question.
A lot of things immediately flash through my mind—
the mistakes, the blunders, the bad decisions.
And though it would be good to change those things,
I feel like I would want to do something that had more of an impact.
BUT WHAT COULD THAT ONE THING BE?
Just ONE thing that would make a difference.
I waited a while for the synapses to connect.
I thought my mind might focus on such things as
CAREER CHOICES, LOCATIONS WHERE WE LIVED, or LIFESTYLE.
But what did finally come to mind was this—
IF I COULD GO BACK AND CHANGE ONE THING
I WOULD SPEND MORE TIME LOVING
THE SPECIAL PEOPLE IN MY LIFE.
Let me say that again.
I WOULD SPEND MORE TIME LOVING
THE SPECIAL PEOPLE IN MY LIFE.
It’s not that I didn’t love them the first time around
because I did.
I would just love them MORE
and I would do it all in the little ways that said
”I LOVE YOU.”
I would take the time to sit with them more.
But I wouldn’t just sit and be in their presence,
I would actively be IN THEIR LIVES.
I would tell them all the little things that I liked about them,
every little thing I could think of
and say it often.
I would tell them how much they mean to me,
how important they are in my life.
I would share with them how I like the little things they do
or have done, the things that make them
so special in my eyes
and sometimes make me cry with love.
I would ask them questions about their interests,
their talents, their hopes, their dreams.
And then when they talked I would listen…..really listen.
I would hug them more, touch more, express my feelings more
Do silly things with them,
sit together and eat popcorn and laugh
and watch movies and sunsets
and go on walks together and reminisce.
I would treasure each moment
and reassure them that I’ve always loved them
but this is a chance to love them even more
and I don’t want to miss it.
And then a few more synapses connected in my mind
and I thought…..now wait a minute.
I’m NOT DEAD.
These are things I CAN do NOW.
Not with those who have passed on
but with all those who are living.
I REJOICED at the thought.
I REOICED at the opportunity.
There’s TIME while there’s LIFE
to make the change.
I can start living my life over…..NOW.
And start LOVING MORE….NOW.
I REJOICED AGAIN!
NOW TO MAKE IT HAPPEN.
So, what ONE thing would YOU change if YOUR life
if you could live your life over
and maybe even do it now?
Excellent advice!
