THE BOY WHO WOULDN’T READ

Since this is National Reading Challenge Month, this blog is going to be a little different.  I enjoy writing poems about what I call The Alphabet Children, children in Miss Prim’s Middle School classroom.  Each child is quite unique and a real challenge to Miss Prim (that’s an understatement).  Anyway, I thought I would share one of the poems that deals with reading.  If by chance you would like to read more about  Miss Prim’s unique students, let me know. H A boy named Humphrey Higgins Hook Said he would NEVER read a book. He wouldn’t even take a look … Continue reading THE BOY WHO WOULDN’T READ

THE LANGUGE OF TENNIS IS THE LANGUAGE OF LIFE

I’ve come to realize that the language of TENNIS— Break, Serve, Advantage, Fault, Love— is the Language of Life. BREAK Be willling to bend as far as you need to in life, but don’t allow ourself to BREAK. Refusing to give up, refusing to BREAK, is the sign of strong character. SERVE SERVE others with a glad heart. Never say you’re too busy to SERVE. Relatioships grow and strengthen when your goal is to SERVE rather than rule. Being blessed with another day to live is being blessed with another opportunity to SERVE. ADVANTAGE ADVANTAGES and obstacles are part of … Continue reading THE LANGUGE OF TENNIS IS THE LANGUAGE OF LIFE

LIFE LESSONS FROM ITTY BITTY, THE SPIDER

Itty Bitty Spider Climbed up the water spout. (If life gives you a mountain….climb it.) Down came the rain And washed the spider out. (Sometimes problems can knock us down.) Out came the sun And dried up all the rain. (Have faith…be patient…things will get better.) So Itty Bitty Spider Climbed up the spout again. (Never give up…persevere…you can do it.) WASTED TIME OR LEISURE TIME – YOU DECIDE

I learned something new yesterday that shocked me. I read some research that said Americans tend to WASTE TIME in the SAME WAY…..EVERY DAY! The article explained that there’s a DIFFERENCE between LEISURE TIME and WASTED TIME. LEISURE TIME is purposeful relaxation and enjoyment. It’s good for you. WASTED TIME is….. well, just a waste of time. Hmmmm…… The article further said that TIME WASTED IS LIFE WASTED. We’re wasting hunks of our life every single day. WOW! We’re not only wasting time every day, we’re doing it in the SAME WAY. OVER and OVER. It’s like a bad habit….an addiction. … Continue reading WASTED TIME OR LEISURE TIME – YOU DECIDE

EACH DAY THERE IS A PATH OF ADVENTURE TO ENJOY

Each morning I get up, get my cup of coffee, walk through the sunroom, open the patio door, step outside and view the pathway that leads through the arch and into the woods. I look forward to the ADVENTURE that each day brings. Perhaps it seems unusual, but that’s what I like about this wonderful, crazy life. Each day the path leads to ADVENTURE. I’m never sure where it’s going, but that adds to the mystery, to the joy and excitement of life. I don’t want a package tour. I want to let the path take me to whatever the … Continue reading EACH DAY THERE IS A PATH OF ADVENTURE TO ENJOY

THERE’S SOMEONE SUPER INSIDE OF YOU

In 1952 a new show, ”SUPERMAN” premiered on television. It was an instant hit. Perhaps its popularity was because it sparked in us a belief….a hope….a dream that there’s someone “SUPER” inside of us… that inside of EVERY ONE OF US is SOMEONE VERY SPECIAL and all we have to do is find “the nearest phone booth,” “change clothes,” and let the SPECIAL PERSON come out… and suddenly we are able to do something we’ve never done before… WE CAN FLY! WE CAN SOAR TO NEW HEIGHTS! WE CAN RISE ABOVE WHERE WE ARE! WE CAN DO WHAT WE THOUGHT … Continue reading THERE’S SOMEONE SUPER INSIDE OF YOU

HOW YOU CHOOSE TO RESPOND IS UP TO YOU

No one can MAKE you angry. No one can MAKE you mad. No one can MAKE you happy. No one an MAKE you sad. No one can MAKE you quit. No one can MAKE you try. No one can MAKE you smile. No one can MAKE you cry. Because…… The feelings you feel And the actions you do Are choices YOU MAKE. They come from YOU. So, OWN your own feelings, The old and the new. And don’t blame others For what you feel and do. Because….. No matter what others SAY, Or the things they DO, HOW YOU CHOOSE … Continue reading HOW YOU CHOOSE TO RESPOND IS UP TO YOU

TEN THINGS I LEARNED ON THE WAY TO GROWING OLDER

LIFE MOVES AT A FAST PACE It’s tempting to pursue life with such breathless haste that you risk missing all the good stuff there is to enjoy.  And here’s the thing, most of the good stuff is free.  It doesn’t cost you to enjoy it.  So, as you journey through the years, take the time to soak in all that life offers and avoid having regrets later because you missed them. WHAT REALLY MATTERS IN LIFE

The older I get the more I think about what really matters in life.  My thinking has changed over the years, which is to be expected since experiences in life have a way of helping us to adjust how we view things. So what really matters?  Here’s a list to ponder. RELATIONSHIPS.  Be realistic about life.  It’s not going to go on forever.  There will come a day when you will see no more sunrises, no more sunsets.  So make the most of every day.  Focus on what’s important — relationships.  Cultivate them with care and stay connected with the … Continue reading WHAT REALLY MATTERS IN LIFE
