THE FIRST CHRISTMAS GIFT

He was a small shepherd boy tending a flock of sheep with his father and uncle in the fields near Bethlehem. The boy lay by the fire to keep warm. He covered himself with the royal purple blanket that his mother had woven for him for his birthday one week earlier. It was the only thing he owned and he treasured it. He thought he was dreaming when the angel appeared and told them a Savior had been born and that they should go see him. They went immediately and found the baby in a makeshift manger with his mother, … Continue reading THE FIRST CHRISTMAS GIFT

WHO IS THIS CHILD BORN IN BETHLEHEM?

A child is born in Bethlehem. Delivery is normal. Child is healthy. Visitors arrive. Everything seems ordinary. Word of the birth spreads. Suddenly things are no longer ordinary. Rumors spread. Some say angels appeared at the birth. Some say a special star appeared in the sky. Some say Kings are on their way to see this child. Some say a ruler wants this child dead. Some say something extraordinary has surely happened. Some say this is no ordinary child. Some say this child just might be the promised one. Some say hearts are now filled with hope. Some say it’s … Continue reading WHO IS THIS CHILD BORN IN BETHLEHEM?

ROCKING CHAIR QUOTES AND BITS OF WISDOM

Your success depends on how you wake up in the morning:  if you bound out of bed because there’s something out there you want to do, that you believe in, that you can hardly wait to get at, something good is going to happen. The most useful knowledge is the knowledge that’s applied. If you want to discover who you are, examine the things you do every day.  You are what you do. A good discipline is to practice giving to others without expecting gratitude or something in return. Kind words are best when followed by kind deeds. Rather than … Continue reading ROCKING CHAIR QUOTES AND BITS OF WISDOM

YES, YOU CAN JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER IF YOU LOOK DEEP ENOUGH

A lady in a faded gingham dress, and her husband, dressed in overalls walked  timidly into Harvard University President’s Office and requested to talk with the president. The administrative assistant took one look at them and concluded that these two backwoods individuals were country hicks who would be a waste of the president’s time.  She decided to discourage them and say that the president’s schedule was full all day. “We’ll wait,” the lady said.  And for hours they sat there waiting.  Finally, the frustrated assistant worked them into the president’s schedule, hoping he could get rid of them in a … Continue reading YES, YOU CAN JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER IF YOU LOOK DEEP ENOUGH

PARABLE OF THE FROG THAT JUMPED TO FREEDOM

Two frogs were hopping along having a friendly conversation when they unexpectedly hopped into a deep well.  They jumped and jumped but could not jump out of the deep well.  Thus, they started to yell for help. A group of frogs came hopping by, heard the yelling, and looked into the well.  It looked like an impossible situation.  They concluded that the well was too deep for the two trapped frogs to escape and told them to give up and stop jumping.  It was useless to keep trying. However, the two frogs would not give up.  They kept jumping.  The … Continue reading PARABLE OF THE FROG THAT JUMPED TO FREEDOM

WE ALL NEED AN “UNSINKABLE MOLLY BROWN” ATTITUDE

I think it’s good sometimes to reflect on what it is that INSPIRES us because it tells us something about ourselves. It gives us insights into who we are. Many things inspire me. One thing I go to when I need a good does of inspiration is a movie, ”The Unsinkable Molly Brown.” It’s based on a true story. Molly Brown was a philanthropist   who survived the Titanic. She’s remembered for helping people get safely off the sinking ship. She’s also remembered for urging the crew of Lifeboat No 6 to return to the debris field and look for … Continue reading WE ALL NEED AN “UNSINKABLE MOLLY BROWN” ATTITUDE

O THE JOY OF ANTICIPATION

The end of the year holiday season fills the heart with ANTICIPATION. What we experience is similar to the way a child listens to a story. The excitement is in the anticipation of what’s going to happen on the next page. O the JOY of ANTICIPATION,,,, the excitement of waiting to see what life is going to come up with next, to see what’s going to happen on the next page. O the excitement of anticipating a visit from family or friends. O the joy of anticipating a note or a call from someone who cares. O the joy of … Continue reading O THE JOY OF ANTICIPATION

YOU SHOULD NEVER HAVE TO EARN TRUST

TRUST is not something to be EARNED because you can NEVER EARN it. UNCONDITIONAL TRUST is like UNCONDITIONAL LOVE.  It’s a GIFT. In its pure, gracious form, it is given without conditions. Even when a person makes a mistake or does a serious wrong,   the goal is still to TRUST the person. TRUST means believing that down deep the person has the ABILITY to do what is right. to make the right decisions. It is motivating and confidence-building to feel that someone trusts you UNCONDITIONALLY,   and you don’t have to figure out how to EARN it. It doesn’t … Continue reading YOU SHOULD NEVER HAVE TO EARN TRUST
