Nostalgia,noun:
”A bittersweet longing for things, persons,
or situations of the past;
a twinge in the heart more powerful
than memory alone;
a feeling of a place where we ache to go again.”
Yes….nostalgia….I love it.
I love creeping into the recesses of my mind….
traveling back to the days that once were….
pulling out slices of my life to enjoy….
nothing more….just enjoy….
simply remembering things that warm my heart.
On this day I remember the old pump out by the barn.
Oh, the twinges I feel when I recall
grasping that long iron handle
and pumping water for the cows and chickens.
I smell the fresh water from the well
and hear the sounds of splashing
as it pours into the old wooden trough.
I hear the cows plodding to the trough
and sipping a cool refreshing drink.
I hear the chickens clucking and scratching
as they wait their turn to the water in the trough.
I hear the rooster crow a friendly familiar sound
as he announces the start of another beautiful day,
and I see the mist over the pasture respond
by moving silently up and away.
I am so blessed to have memory,
to be able to enjoy nostalgia.
The older I get the more it means to me.
In today’s busy complex world,
doesn’t everyone need to take the time
for a little nostalgia?
Nostalgia another beautiful thing in life! I was lucky to have my best friend here for a week and a visit from my Godson. Lots of nostalgia. So lucky.
