DISCOVERING THE SWEETNESS OF LIFE

Early I arose as dawn kissed the morning dew, and on my patio with coffee in hand, I noticed a flash of rainbow lightening, a glimpse of invisible iridescent wings darting and diving from flower to flower. What a treat to start my day, observing a dancing, dazzling hummingbird that had fortuitously come my way. As I watched this wonder of nature, dozens of words flashed through my mind that seemed to capture what I saw the hummingbird doing…. words like darting, dashing, discovering, and finally drinking a flower’s sweet nectar, then dashing off to another. Oh, that my day … Continue reading DISCOVERING THE SWEETNESS OF LIFE

My black-eyed susans took a lot of care all summer, cultivating, nurturing, watering, pruning— a lot of work for me, the gardener— whose old knees don’t bend so easily anymore. There’s so much to know about smiles. A study by a French neurologist concluded that there are two kinds of smiles, smiling with the mouth and smiling with the eyes. Some people can do both, some can’t. I wonder which I do. A famous study of yearbooks discovered that women who had the biggest smiles went on to lead happier lives. Hurry and go look at your old yearbook photo. And what about the guys?
