There’s a little spot at the corner of our flower garden that I thought would be a perfect location for a zucchini plant. It would have lots of room to happily sprawl as it wished. I planted two seeds and gently tapped the soil as though to bless the potential that was now beneath the surface. Each morning, with coffee in hand, I walk the flower garden to enjoy the blooms and birds. Each morning, after“the planting,” I stopped to see if the seeds had emerged. Nothing. Morning after morning I stopped. Nothing. I went back and read the seed packet. Those seeds should have germinated by now. ”Should have.” I blamed bad seeds.... I had been given duds. I blamed the birds. They must have scratched the soil and feasted upon MY SEEDS. I blamed the squirrels. More than once they have dug down and eaten what was MINE. Days passed......nothing......but frustration. I gave up. But then.....this morning.....the miracle. Nature gave birth.....beautiful sprouts emerged. Way beyond the birth date. I have no idea why it took so long. I think Nature knew I needed a stern reminder that things happen in their own time. Don’t be quick to blame. Be patient. Not all seeds are the same. We’re all different.
This post was beautiful! It reminded me of a Maori phrase we use often in New Zealand early childhood education that says, ‘ā tōna wā’ and means ‘in their own time’. xx
To be honest there are some days I don’t read your daily wisdom. Life just gets too busy. But this evening I read your post and it really hit the nail on the head so to speak. Both of us find sooo much pleasure from working in our yard. At the first sign of an early summer Tom planted bulls and I planted flower seed. So far only a few signs of 🌱 have shown up. Patience is an important part of life.
Barbara, thank you for your response. I understand about the business of life and that makes your reply all the more appreciated. May all your seeds pop out and grow with great robust.
To every thing there is a season!
