YOU SHOULD NEVER HAVE TO EARN TRUST

TRUST is not something to be EARNED

because you can NEVER EARN it.

UNCONDITIONAL TRUST is like

UNCONDITIONAL LOVE.

It’s a GIFT.

In its pure, gracious form,

it is given without conditions.

Even when a person makes a mistake

or does a serious wrong,

the goal is still to TRUST the person.

TRUST means believing that down deep

the person has the ABILITY

to do what is right.

to make the right decisions.

It is motivating and confidence-building

to feel that someone trusts you

UNCONDITIONALLY,

and you don’t have to figure out

how to EARN it.

It doesn’t mean that you have to stay in

a relationship that is unhealthy

or hurtful to you.

Rather, it means you TRUST

that the person has the ABILITY

to make the RIGHT DECISIONS.

It may seem difficult or almost impossible to do,

butTRUST IS SOMETHING THAT YOU GIVE

UNCONDITIONALLY AND GRACOUSLY.

  1. This is a thought provoking post. Your unconditional trust when I was a teenager changed my life, and I also know the credentials, years of clinical practice and expertise your post is built on, yet I still question the semantics. Could there be times it is more appropriate to hope or believe rather than to trust unconditionally? xx

    1. Is there a time you would not trust that your children would not have the ability to make the right decision? They may not make the right decision but they could have. You trust that they are capabl of making the right decision. It’s important that they feel your trust even when their decision is inappropriate.
